Action Trauma of Ireland Conference
In 2019, Dr. Gerbarg and Dr. Brown met Clive Corry, Founder and Director of Action Trauma. Ireland has a long history of trauma that has never been adequately addressed. Action Trauma was initially formed to educate the public about the nature and long-term effects of untreated trauma, and cutting-edge trauma treatment options, as well as to pressure the government to release funding for treatment.
The first Action Trauma conference was held at the new Titanic Convention Center, built on the locks where the Titanic was constructed 1909. It contains a museum memorializing those who died when it sank, an enormous loss for local villages that supplied many construction workers and crew members. Mr. Corry took a BBM Course at the London Minded Institute and became convinced that BBM could contribute important trauma education and training to the conference. The attendees responded strongly to learning about the science of breath practices and many participated in a BBM workshop. One of the agencies who sent staff to the conference later contacted Dr. Gerbarg and Dr. Brown for staff training.
Dr. Gerbarg and Dr. Brown gave keynote lectures and a workshop at the Action Trauma Inter-generational Transmission of Trauma Conference in Belfast, Oct 22-23, 2019, held at the Titanic Conference Center. This two-day yearly conference brings together leading international and local experts to examine how patterns of addictive, anxious or depressive behavior can pass from generation to generation. It explores how the impact of trauma can be passed from one generation to the next and considers the contribution across the spectrum, from learned behaviors through vicarious and secondary trauma to transmission at the genetic level. If trauma can be passed from one generation to the next, so can healing. This event provided two days of training and discussion on how we can progress from trauma informed to trauma responsive. Some of the attendees from social services, educational, and governmental agencies who heard Dr. Gerbarg and Dr. Brown, later contacted BBM for staff training (see below).
The next Trauma Summit will be held in Belfast, June 12-13, 2022. https://actiontrauma.com/traumasummit/
