On February 8, 2025, the Neighbors Network of Lee County hosted a Breath-Body-Mind (BBM) workshop at Unity of Fort Myers, bringing together community members eager to explore the power of breath for stress management and well-being. Led by certified BBM instructor Dr. Angel Rafael Braña-López, the event offered two sessions designed to introduce participants to the neurophysiology of breathing and guide them through BBM practices. The first session, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, provided attendees with a solid scientific foundation on how breathwork can help regulate stress and optimize energy levels. Participants gained insight into the benefits of Coherent Breathing and Qigong exercises, which form the core of BBM practices.

Read More14 years ago STWS partnered with Dr. Richard Brown & and Patricia Gerbarg in offering their Breath-Body-Mind courses. Over 1700 people came to these workshops, including many NYC firefighters, veterans, as well as people affected by Hurricane Sandy in NYC and the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The BBM Foundation continues this work by funding scholarships to BBM courses.
Read MoreAs part of the Westchester Library System's ongoing work to support community resilience they introduced Breath-Body-Mind practices via a county-wide program called Westchester Breathes. Introductory workshops, training and practice sessions were offered to professionals from across service sectors. Ongoing practice sessions are made available free to the public through the support of WLS and member libraries. Looking ahead, they hope to work with school districts to engage staff and students with these calming, strengthening practices.
